Drawing One Point Perspective Lesson
Supplies
Paper (Watercolor or Print)
Crayola Marker (Any Dark Color)
Ruler (optional but very helpful)
Pencil and eraser
Paintbrush (round)
Water in a container
Paper Towel
Steps
1. On normal drawing paper practice drawing 4 blocks with me in 1 point perspective. We will
draw one below the horizon line, above the horizon line and one the horizon line.
2. On your watercolor paper or normal drawing paper draw a vanishing point in the middle
with your Crayola marker.
3. Draw 5-7 squares around it, some close some far away
4. Add perspective lines from the corners of the squares to the vanishing point. Start with the
ones closest. If the perspective lines go through a block stop the line at the block.
5. Add shadows with water and a small round pain brush
6. Draw in any lost lines
Adaptions
Draw only three boxes around the vanishing point
Help children place their ruler so it “points” to the vanishing point. You may need to erase
some lines to help them understand where the cubes are. Explain that these cubes are being
invented by them, they can be as long or short as they want.
