In the spring of 2011, Amber Gerweck, a 32-year-old resident of Michigan, went missing. The woman was divorced and raised four children, and also worked under a contract for the Department of Homeland Security. In mid-April (the children were visiting relatives at that time), she stopped showing up at work, her phone did not answer, and relatives reported to the police that the woman was missing.
The police searched Gerwek's house, where she lived with the children, but she was nowhere to be found, and the evidence pointed to a crime: the laptop was on and lying on the bed, next to Amber's gutted purse. It looked like she was going about her business, and then someone or something forced her to drop everything and leave. The only items missing from the house were Amber's wallet and car keys. Just hours later, the missing woman's car was found abandoned in a parking lot outside a Dollar General supermarket in Georgia, 600 miles from her home. The car contained keys, a wallet, and a shopping bag from a nearby supermarket. Video from the cameras from the store shows Amber shopping. She looks healthy and unharmed, a little unsure of her actions, but it cannot be argued that Amber is afraid of something, nervous or who is forcing her. In the video, the woman was alone, but at the same time, a suspicious black man in a blue cap was filmed in a camera store. He was put on the wanted list, his composite was sent to all police departments.
