On October 21, 1978, under ideal weather conditions, a young pilot (with an experience of 150 flying hours) 19-year-old Frederic Valentich (shown in the photo above) flew from Murrabine airport to King Island, during which he said that he was being pursued by a strange object, about which the air service did not know anything. After an attempt to communicate some information about the object to the dispatcher, the pilot's communication was unexpectedly interrupted and after that no one ever saw him.
