I am constantly asked by parents to help make their kids faster. In most cases, it is a request that is tied to their son or daughter's performance in a particular sport. Regardless of the sport, I see tremendous value in having all kids perform some degree of acceleration training in their youth, either implemented by their physical education teachers, sport coaches or even their parents.
I outline what I feel are the key benefits of training the skill of acceleration on a frequent basis. Understanding the benefits of this type of approach goes a long way to encouraging sustainable compliance by both parents and athletes. The implementation of acceleration work need not be complicated. While there are some basic technical requirements, choosing the right type of start position may be an easy means of encouraging appropriate acceleration posture.
I will be providing more information on key sprinting techniques for young athletes that should be applicable to all sports, and even benefit young individuals with their general fitness requirements.
