Display stats in the lower right corner:
The Status Bar runs along the bottom of Blender. Right mouse click in this area and activate Scene Statistics.
Display stats in the upper left corner:
In the upper right corner of the 3D Viewport is the Show Overlays button (icon with two overlapping circles). Click on the downward facing arrow to the right of this icon to open up the options and activate Statistics.
General:
Both sets of numbers summarise the entire scene. With an object selected and in Edit mode, both sets of numbers will summarise the selected object.
