A body which revolves constantly round a comparatively much larger body is called a satellite. The earth and the other planets revolve round the sun in their specified orbits. The moon revolves round the earth. All these are examples of Natural Satellites. Man-made satellites are called Artificial Satellites. An artificial satellite is placed in an stable orbit with the help of multistage rocket. By some mechanism a particular velocity known as Insertion velocity is provided to the satellite, so that it revolves in an specific orbit. The period of revolution has been calculated here in case of a circular orbit.
