This is the second part of the lecture on damped harmonic oscillator. In first part of the lecture. the differential equation of motion for a damped harmonic oscillator was obtained and we have also got the general solution of this equation of motion. Inertial this second part of the lecture on the same concept, the nature of the motion of the oscillator has been discussed by analyzing the solution of the equation of motion in three situations. It is found that in case of the over damping and the critical damping, no oscillation takes place. The displacement of the system decreases asymptotically and finally it comes to the rest. In under damping condition. the system oscillates with a frequency different from its natural frequency, and asymptotically decaying amplitude. The oscillation is ceased after a long time.
