Being a 10X Software Developer with Generative AI
A few years back a term was coined for software developers and the term is called becoming a 10x software developer and this term was all about outcome and the output created by software developers and the creators and proponents of the term 10x software engineer is all about increasing the speed of the software developers.
I was not very impressed with this particular term and because if a runner is running on the track, the person is running more or less to the best possible extent (s)he can, any improvement can't be more than 2x, and this 10x was seemed far fetched to me.
However, with the arrival and general availability of Generative AI, it now possible for an individual software developer to be more than what (s)he was before. Generative AI or large language models can drastically reduce the amount of time one spend online to get the answer of a question and to search a best possible alternative to the code.
Not only that, generative AI can automatically generate the test case (in most of the simple cases) which further gives the valuable time to the software developers. If we're making use of generative AI, it's highly likely that all software developers and engineers can be more than 1x.
