How to Work with Numeric Values in Excel Pivot Tables

One of my clients asked for my help with an Excel Pivot Table. She needed to work with a field that contains Numeric Values - The Employee ID Field - rather than with fields that contain the Text Labels for Employee Names.

Beginning with Excel 2007, if you check a field that contains Numeric Values, it gets automatically placed into the Values Area for the Pivot Table and the Sum Function is used to Subtotal these values.

This is where my client got "twisted into knots."
