Lesser Grain Borer is the most important insect of stored wheat. It may damage stored wheat up to forty percent in severe cases. The testa of wheat grain remains very hard during may and June and this insect can not damage wheat crop during this period. However, grains of wheat absorb moisture during monsoon and they become relatively soft and grain borer (Susri) can damage it easily. We have suggested not to use Alluminum Phosphide tablets during May and June but in July these must be applied @ 1-2 tablets per 40kg of Wheat.
Wheat prices have increased all time high now a days. It has become a precious grain right now. No one would want susri to damage its stored wheat in the container. In this video, we have highlighted a major mistake made by most of the people that leads to the loss of thier wheat stored in the storing container despite of using tablets.
This mistake is the placement of tablets immediately after pouring it in the container during month of May. Two months May and June are the hottest months of the year. Wheat grains have a hard outer layer that can not be breached by lesser grain borer during hot months of May and June because humidity is at the lowest level. When monsoon rains come, wheat grains absorb some moisture, that makes them vulnerable for grain borer. So, what should we do to avoid this situation.
The solution is simple. We should not place tablets in May and June. We should place tablets in the wheat during month of July, wheat there are more chances of wheat grain borer to affect the wheat. If this point is followed, we can easily save our wheat from lesser grain borer.
