How to prepare carrot crop as early as possible || Crop Reformer
We have given five suggestions to prepare carrot crop earlier than routine duration of 120 days. Frequent monsoon rainfall has improved soil moisture regime and lowered temperature in most parts of Punjab. In this video, we have argued that under the scenario of recent rainfall, early planting of carrot has become feasible in most parts of the province. In north east Punjab, its planting after mid of August and in the central Punjab after 20th of August has been suggested.
T-29 is a good variety which can withstand relatively high temperature, but most of our professional carrot grower, prefer Indian varieties. We have suggested Proline and T-29 for very early, Pooja and Maharani for mid-season for better yield.
Carrot is very important vegetable crop and is cultivated throughout Punjab. Early supply of carrot during August to November continues from KPK and northern area. Two decades ago early crop of carrot was planted during the mid of August and wheat crop was easily cultivated after this crop. Now a days, its early planting has been restricted in central Punjab due to changing climate. Severity of temperature has increased and early sowing of this crop has become very difficult. However September sowing is suggested under the scenario of changing climate. In this video, we have not only advised the farmers about when and how to plant carrot crop but complete production technology including the selection of varieties, sowing method, weed control, irrigation, fertilizer management and disease control has also been highlighted.
