0:00 - Intro
Empty space around artwork can take the form of transparent pixels or a solid colour. Many people use the Crop Tool to clear away such pixels. However, this method can be tedious. It also runs the risk of trimming away part of the artwork or not trimming away enough dead space. The Trim option within the Image menu nicely automates this task.
0:30 - Trimming Transparent Pixels
This technique works excellently on files that support transparency such as PNGs and Photoshop files. It doesn't flatten layered files with the layer structure remaining intact.
2:24 - Trimming Coloured (Including White) Pixels
This technique works just as well on single layered formats such as PNG. It can easily trim away solid colours including white.
3:02 - Trimming Low Quality JPEG Images
Applying the Trim technique to a JPEG, particularly a low quality one, may initially appear successful. However, closer inspection often reveals a less than tight trim. This is the result of the artefacts that can be created when creating a JPEG. In such a case, the best solution for trimming would be to use the Crop Tool.
