Hiace Storage Cabinet for pull-out bed - Complete walkthrough
Storage cabinetry is another great opportunity to see how many practical uses we can squeeze out of this tiny space!
This floor to ceiling design provides heaps of storage for clothes (clean AND dirty), nick nacks, and toys, and even shoes. It has a cozy little home office which incorporates into the day lounge, and it securely supports the slide out bed rail at night while maintaining all of its own functionality during the day.
A few of the design difficulties included:
How to get the cabinet to finish nice and smoothly against all of the vans curved edges.
Securely supporting the slide out bed without losing practical use of the lower section of the cabinet.
Keeping the unit as slim as possible including finding the minimum practical depth of the HiAce wall before the cupboards became impractical.
Creating a unique finish without sacrificing space or functionality.
I spent hours upon hours researching, designing and redesigning to finally come up with a plan that I was happy with, which ticked all these boxes. In the course of this video I run through exactly what storage the unit offers as well as delving into how I addressed many of the challenges and obstacles that popped up along the way.
