When SUNY Cortland students Gabriella Delorenzo and Megan Rothmund partnered with other students to start a Turning Point USA chapter on their campus, they were met with fierce opposition. Even though they abided by all of the university's rules, the student senate used a vague policy to bar the organization from being recognized on campus. After Alliance Defending Freedom filed a lawsuit on behalf of the TPUSA chapter, the student government reversed course, granted the chapter recognition, and amended its policy. But, the revised policy still allows the student government to discriminate against organizations based on their viewpoint, so the ADF lawsuit is ongoing.
Gabriella, Megan, and ADF Legal Counsel Mathew Hoffmann appeared on “The Charlie Kirk Show” to discuss the case and explain why universities cannot be allowed to discriminate against groups because of their beliefs.
