One of the longest lava tubes (12,810 feet) is right here in Washington State. About 2,000 years ago, the Ape Cave lava tubes was formed when Mount St. Helen erupted and lava poured down south. It has two possible routes to explore, the upper cave which is more advanced and the lower cave which is kid friendly. The trail is about 3 miles round trip. Visitors are required to have reservations to visit Ape Cave. Visitors will only need one ticket for each vehicle visiting Ape Cave during their reserved time slot. Timed reservations tickets can be obtained through recreation.gov in advance of a visit.
This is a unique and fun adventure not to miss for able bodied! Just don't forget your flashlights and headlamps!
