Mt. Pilchuck Lookout is one of the most loved fire towers of Washington. It’s located within Mount Pilchuck State Park as well as Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. An incredibly popular hiking destination and overnight camping space for those who are willing to hike up the mountain with all of their backpacking gear. Reservations are not required to stay at the historic fire lookout, but there is limited space and you’re likely going to be sharing it with more than one group specially in the summer.
The road going to the trailhead is now much improved compared to the last time we hiked it almost 3 years ago. No more monster potholes. The trailhead is about 2 hours from Seattle.
The trail has been nicely paved with forest at the beginning and rock scrambling at the last half of the hike. A lot of uphill stairs but worth all the sweats. You'll be rewarded from the lookout with incredible 360° views around you of Mt Baker, Mt Rainier, Mt Shuksan, Mt Adams, Glacier Peak, and all of the North Cascades. Mount Pilchuck is 5,344’ tall. The famous Fire Lookout was constructed in 1921 and today serves as an impressive landmark and Memorial to the past. Check it out and Happy Trails!
