Description:
Insert text before a table or between two seamless tables in Word
In the process of making a Word document, we will occasionally encounter a situation where we want to insert text between two or more seamless tables, and since we must insert a cursor before entering text, it is not easy to insert a cursor between seamless tables, what should we do? There is no doubt about separating the tables, and as for how to separate them and what happens after the separation, see the specific examples below.
One. Insert text bef
ore a table in Word using shortcut keys
Method 1: Move the table down
1. If a table is inserted on the first page of a newly created blank document, the cursor cannot be inserted in front of it.
2. Now ask to insert a header in front of the table. If the cursor is not in the table, click the table once to position the cursor in the table, click the small icon in the upper left corner of the table or press Alt + Shift + 5 on the numeric keypad at the same time, select the entire table, press Alt + Shift + Down Arrow at the same time to move the table down, and the cursor appears in front of the table.
Note: When the table does not break accross pages, it is okay to move the table down with the mouse, but when the table is break accross pages, it may not work with the mouse.
Method 2: Cut and paste
Here "before the table" refers to the table can not insert the cursor, the clipping method is to cut and paste the table to another document first, insert the text and then cut the table back. It should be noted that the table cut and pasted to another document must be saved to prevent loss, especially when the table is more important, more content or more tables, once lost, some information may not be found, even if it can be found back to remake it is particularly troublesome.
Two. Insert text between two seamless tables in Word using shortcut keys
1. If we have two tables in a document that are seamlessly joined together, we are now required to insert a line of text between them. Position the cursor over the red table below, press Alt + Shift + 5 on the numeric keypad at the same time, select it, and press Alt + Shift + Down Arrow at the same time, then the two tables are separated, see video.
2. There is already the cursor between the upper and lower tables, we can enter the text, such as entering "Word insert text between two seamless tables".
Note; If we move the table below with mouse without using shortcuts, the table will be misaligned
The red table is moved to the top and the blue table is moved to the bottom, and they are still seamlessly connected together, so it is not suitable for moving with the mouse. Sometimes moving with shortcuts can also misalign, while moving with the mouse can successfully separate them, so when one method doesn't work, we should switch to another.
Two overlapping tables are also separated in the same way, see video.
What if two tables are separated and there is no cursor between them and we still can't insert text where?
This situation is more common between tables that allow overlap, and the same cut-and-paste method can be used to solve this problem, as follows:
Cut and paste all the tables below to another document, press Enter, insert a line break under the first table, press Enter again to insert a line break, and cut and paste the table back.
The above only describes the situation of two tables, and the same is done for multiple tables. we can select multiple tables at the same time at a time and then move them down; If this doesn't work, try moving the bottom table down first.
Three. Insert text in the middle of a table in Word
If we accidentally merge two different tables together and now require the insertion of headers in front of different tables, we need to split the two tables again as follows:
1. Position the cursor to the row to be split (the row where the cursor is located will be split to the second table), if the previous table has a total of 9 rows, then the cursor is positioned to the 10th row. Hold down Alt + A at the same time and press T twice, and the table is split from row 10, see video.
2. After the table is split, the cursor automatically appears between them, and we can enter the title.
