Description:
Round to decimal places in Excel, with using Round function flexibly and rounding to nearest 1000
There are more rounding functions with the Round function, which can be used to round numbers to a specified number of decimal places, and to round numbers to the left of the decimal point. In addition to rounding, there are sometimes "Less than or equal to three, discarded; Greater than or equal to four, carry" or “Less than or equal to five, discarded; Greater than or equal to six, carry”, there are no specialized functions to implement them, but they can be achieved by using the Round function.
One. Round to decimal places in Excel
(1) Use Decrease Decimal
Select the "Home" tab, select the cell we want to round (such as E3), click the Decrease Decimal icon in the Number group in the Ribbon, and 81.33 in E3 is changed from two decimal places to one decimal place after rounding, which is 81.3, and because the last digit is 3, it does not carryz forward.
(2) Use Number Format
Select the cell to be rounded (such as E9), press Ctrl + 1 on the keyboard to open the "Format Cells" window, select the "Number" tab, click the "Number" on the left, change the "Number of Decimal Places" to 1, click "OK", then the rounding of 87.67 of E9 becomes 87.7.
(3) Use Round function
1. Suppose we want to round the average score in a Student's Table to one decimal place and save them to another column. Select F2, enter the formula =ROUND(E2, 1), press Enter on the keyboard, then the average score in E2 will be rounded to one decimal place and saved to F2; Move the pointer over thel fill handle of F2, hold down the left button, and drag down to round the average score to one decimal place and save to column F.
2. If we want to keep the result of rounding in the original cells, the values of the celsl must be calculated by the formula, for example, the average score is calculated by the AVERAGE function, we can add the Round function to the AVERAGE function, that is, =ROUND((AVERAGE(B2:D2),1).
3. The Round function can also round numbers to the left of the decimal point, for example:
The digits are 0, 81.3 becomes 81, indicating rounding; Change the digits to -1, 81.3 to 80, i.e. round to 10 places; Finally, change the digits to -2, 81.3 to 100, i.e. round to the hundreds.
Two. Use Round function flexibly in Excel
(1) Less than or equal to three, discarded; Greater than or equal to four, carry
1. Double-click B1, copy the formula =ROUND(A1 + 0.01,1) to B1, press Enter on the keyboard, the result is 78.5, indicating that 3 is discarded; Change 78.53 to 78.54, again using the formula =ROUND(A1 + 0.01,1), then the result is 78.6, indicating that 4 has carried by 1.
2. When arithmetic, add 0.01 to A1 (i.e. 78.53), 78.53 becomes 78.54, and then use the Round function to round up, so that we can get the correct result, which is actually the use of the Round function.
(2) Less than or equal to five, discarded; Greater than or equal to six, carry
1. Copy the formula =ROUND(A1 - 0.01,1) to B1, press Enter on the keyboard, then 78.55 becomes 78.5, indicating that 5 is discarded.
2. Change 78.55 to 78.56 again, and use the formula =ROUND(A1 - 0.01,1), the result is 78.6, indicating that 6 has carried by 1.
3. When arithmetic, subtract 0.01 from A1 and round it with the Round function, so we can get the correct result.
Three. Round in Excel to nearest 1000
1. Suppose we want to round the 788.55 of cell A1 to the nearest 1000 times. Copy the formula =MROUND(A1,1000) to B1 and press Enter on the keyboard, and the result is 1000.
2. The MRound function can also round numbers to integer multiples. For example, if we round 7 to 2 times the nearest (formula: =MROUND(7,2)), the result is 8.
