Description:

Text in Word table is not vertically centered, overlapped, hidden, and incompletely displayed (causes and solutions)

The text in table cells is often not vertically centered, such as up and down, and sometimes there are problems such as overlapping, hiding, and incomplete display. They are either related to Line Spacing or cell margins, and may also be related to table overlap. See the following sub-items for details and solutions.

One. Text in the table is not vertically centered in Word, how to solve?

(1) The input text of the new table is not vertically centered

1. In a new table, the text entered in a cell is usually on the top, neither horizontally nor vertically centered, see the video.

2. If the text in the table needs to be centered vertically, you should use the "Align Center" in the "Layout" tab. If you use the “Center” in the right-click menu or the "Home" tab , it can only be centered horizontally but not vertically. Select the cell where the "Name" is located, select the "Layout" tab, and align the "Name" to the center, including horizontal centering and vertical centering, see the video.

Note: If you want to align the text of multiple cells or one line or even several lines to the center, select them and then select"Align Center" in the "Layout" tab.

(2) The font size is increased and the text is not vertically centered

1. If the font size of "Name" is increased, the vertical direction will no longer be centered, see the video.

2. This case is not caused by cell margins, but by Line Spacing. Select "Name", select the "Home" tab, click the "Oblique Arrow" icon next to "Paragraph" in the Paragraph group, open the "Paragraph" window, select the "Indents and Spacing" tab, the default value of "Line Spacing" is "Single". The "Single" has a characteristic, the font size increases, the line spacing also increases; after the line spacing increases, the height of the cell does not increase, so the word "Name" is not vertically centered, if the row height is increased, It will be centered.

3. But in most cases, as long as the cell can accommodate text, we don't want to increase the row height to avoid affecting other cells, so the method of modifying the line spacing is generally adopted. We set the line spacing to "Exactly" and changed it's value to 16 points. After clicking "OK", the word "Name" is also vertically centered, see the video.

Two. Increase the font size of the text, the text is no longer centered in Microsoft Word

Increase the font size of "Name" to 36, and part of the top of "Name" has been blocked. If it is not allowed to increase the row height, you can only set the font size smaller, so that the text will be fully displayed. Re-set the font size to 18 and the "Name" is fully displayed again, see the video.

Three, Line Spacing in the table causes text to overlap in Microsoft Word (Text overlapping in Word table)

1. The line spacing will not cause the text to overlap, but because the line spacing is too small, a part of the text is hidden, causing an overlapping illusion, see the video.

2. As long as the line spacing is adjusted appropriately, the text can be completely displayed without causing the illusion of overlapping. Click the "Oblique Arrow" next to "Paragraph" in the Paragraph group in the "Home" tab again, open the "Paragraph" window, change the "At" of "Line Spacing" to 16 points, and click "OK", the text will be fully displayed, see video.

From the above introduction, it can be seen that the problems in table text are mainly caused by the line spacing. Therefore, when encountering such problems, you should first start with the line spacing, which will help solve the problem as soon as possible.
