0:00 - Blending Modes & Opacity in Photoshop
The Blending Mode and Opacity settings for a layer can be easily found at the top of the Layers panel within Photoshop. The Multiply blending mode keeps the black pixels within a layer while the white pixels become invisible. Conversely, the Screen blending mode keeps the white, while dropping the black, pixels. The Opacity setting controls the transparency of a layer.

1:11 - Blending Modes & Opacity in InDesign
With an object selected, its Opacity value can be easily seen within the Properties panel. However, the location of the Blending Modes is not so obvious. Clicking on the word "Opacity" within the Properties panel temporarily opens the equivalent of the Effects panel. From here, or from within the Effects panel itself, the Blending Modes can be found and changed.

2:31 - Targeting Object, Fill or Stroke
Blending Mode and/or Opacity changes can be applied not just to an object as a whole, but also to the Fill and/or Stroke. The ability to make such granular changes allows for some very powerful and creative design choices.

3:43 - Factor in Output When Designing
Just because odd combinations of blending and opacity can be applied to objects as a whole, their Fills or their Strokes, doesn't mean that they should. The ultimate destination of the design should always be considered. Formats such as PDF or HTML may not support the changes made to various objects.
