Some functions are not explicitly defined in the form of y = f(x) but are determined by some relation between the variables x and y, such as F(x,y) = 0. Such functions are called implicit functions. We show when such implicit functions can be defined (Implicit Function Theorem). As an application, we show how to find the tangent line of a general curve defined by F(x,y) = 0.
