🔍 Part 34: Tracing Panels from Patterns
You can effortlessly create facings and panels from an existing pattern simply by copying the pattern and using it as a template. Using the selection tool click and drag the entire pattern, then copy it and paste it to a new area of your artboard.
Draw the lines of your panel or facing using the pen tool. Make sure the lines extend beyond the pattern edges. Next select both the lines and the pattern outline. Click pathfinder and then divide.
Next, select and delete the unwanted parts of your new panel and re-mark your guidelines.
Finally, select the new panel and click object -group. You can now move it into position over the existing pattern to check it’s correct.
