To hide a video on the Premiere Pro timeline, right mouse click on it and turn off the "Enable" toggle. It greys out on the timeline, the video disappears and any audio is muted.
To re-enable a video, right mouse click on it and choose Enable.
With a single clip or multiple clips selected on the timeline, the Enable toggle can also be accessed via the Clip menu.
