Worked on adding dancers to the rap scene I demonstrated last week - due to the dynamics and complexity of most dance moves, I think the Marvelous Designer USD export to UnrealEngine-workflow won't give an optimal result.
One thing I learned in the past years is that (Fashion) Brands hesitate 'going digital' because of limitations in the way fabric moves and 'feels' in a Virtual space.
Therefore, for the dancers and their puffy outfits, I chose for the most accurate fabric representation coming from Marvelous Designer, which I think is the Alembic format.
With Alembic, animations and physics are recorded within Marvelous Designer and exported out as a complete 'package'. These files can be huge - running into GB's - but since I'm only planning to record content in UnrealEngine there's no need to optimize for gaming/realtime purposes.
Below is an example of an Epic Games MetaHuman avatar, which has its body animation synced with the pre-recorded Alembic outfit - so basically two moving items stacked on top of each other. The recording is a live screencapture from UnrealEngine's editor.
I'll continue to work on the dancers and add them to the clip I shared in a previous post.
Would you consider using Alembic files in your projects?
