Excel Visualization: Visio Data Visualizer Now Available - Episode 2375

In this episode, we'll be discussing the Visio Data Visualizer, which has recently reached general availability. If you've been following along with our previous episodes, you may have already heard about the Visio Data Visualizer from our hosts Leila and Mynda. But now, with its general availability, more people will have access to this add-in and its three types of charts: org charts, flowcharts, and process charts. However, it's important to note that the availability of this add-in depends on your Microsoft 365 subscription. If you're on the Insiders or Monthly channel, you'll have access to it. For Enterprise or student subscriptions, it's also available. But for Home and semi-annual subscriptions, it's still in preview and you'll need to follow the instructions in Leila and Mynda's videos to access it.
So, what's new with the Visio Data Visualizer? Well, for starters, there's now an icon for it on the Insert tab, making it easier to discover. Additionally, when you go to File and New in the Backstage, you can now search for "flowcharts" and choose from five templates. While two of these templates require a Visio license, the other three are available for use. Let's take a closer look at creating an org chart using one of these templates.
One of the most impressive features of the Visio Data Visualizer is its ability to automatically update the chart when changes are made to the data in the table. This makes it much easier to manage and update charts, especially when dealing with large amounts of data. And while there may be a bit of a learning curve when it comes to using this add-in, it's definitely worth it for the convenience and efficiency it provides.
But that's not all - the Visio Data Visualizer also offers additional tabs for getting started, understanding the diagram data, and even a pitch for the Visio trial. While some may see this as a way to entice users to try Visio, it's also a helpful tool for those who want to customize their charts and add additional elements such as titles and colors.
In addition to org charts, the Visio Data Visualizer also offers flowcharts and process charts, which can be useful for visualizing workflows and processes. And for those who have a Visio license, there are even more shape options available for use in these charts.
