Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Why No Paste Special to Copy Row Heights in Excel?
Welcome back to the MrExcel podcast, sponsored by Easy Excel. In this episode, we will be discussing column widths and row heights. I recently received a note from Wayne in Kentucky, who pointed out the new feature in Excel that allows us to easily copy column widths. All you have to do is select the cells you want to copy, and then use the paste special function. This can save a lot of time and effort, especially when working with large datasets.
However, Wayne also brought up a valid point - there is no easy way to copy row heights using the paste special function. This can be frustrating, especially when dealing with rows of varying heights. But fear not, I have a great trick for you. You can use the format painter to copy row heights. Simply select the rows you want to copy, and then use the format painter to select the rows you want to paste the heights onto. This will not only copy the row heights, but also any formatting such as bold or colors.
It's important to note that this trick works best with new workbooks. If you are working with an existing workbook, the format painter may also copy over any existing formatting, which may not be desired. In that case, you can use the paste special function for column widths, or manually adjust the row heights. The format painter is a versatile tool that can also be used to copy column widths, making it a great option for copying ranges of columns or rows. Thank you for tuning in to this episode of the MrExcel podcast, and be sure to join us next time for more Excel tips and tricks.
