Babylon (2022) - 'Golden Coast Sunset' scene
This chaotic but amazing film often relies on Justin Hurwitz's score to keep it together, and to guide the audience through the fast-paced subplots unfolding on screen. The opening fifty minutes are mostly crazy, but then, like a much-needed breeze of fresh air, this magical scene arrives. It's over the top, it's cheesy... but it's wonderful. Hurwitz manages to grace it with a piece of original score that we can easily imagine being performed a century ago, becuase music this beautiful is timeless.
Starring Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Spike Jonze, Diego Calva, Jean Smart, Flea, Olivia Wilde, Lukas Haas, Li Jun Li, Eric Roberts, Max Minghella and Tobey Maguire. Written and directed by Damien Chazelle, with an Oscar-nominated original score by his usual collaborator Justin Hurwitz.
