Many of us have heard the idea that weightlifting in late childhood and adolescence can prevent youth from reaching their maximum height potential, but is this really true? This video will break down this myth, how it arose, and explain why it is just a myth. Next, this video will provide some background on how our bones actually grow and how growth plates work to make someone taller. Finally, it will aim to offer insight on the benefits of weightlifting for one’s mental and physical health, the potential harms of weightlifting, and best practices for youth aiming to get into weightlifting.
