Breast Cancer Day 32 - How many don't have access to mammograms?
I was thinking about how tragic it is for patients who don't have access to health care and/or insurance that will pay for mammograms. They might not find that cancer until tumors can be felt and by that time, more intense treatment, chemo and surgery will be needed. Contrast that with myself who, during a regular mammogram, found the earliest signs of cancer in the form of calcifications. Two biopsies confirmed Ductal Carcinoma in Situ Stage Zero and with surgery, I may need no additional treatment. But that's not the story for many other women.
We need to be supporting health care, affordable care, expanded care and preventative care. We need more affordable medications so that medical bankruptcy doesn't devastate our families.
This election this year isn't about right or left, republican or democrat. To me, the deciding factor is health care. One party supports expanded health care and is working every day to make that happen. The other party wants to reduce health care, cancel social security and they support higher priced medications. I'm for health care. I'm for easing suffering. I'm for helping as many people who are suffering as we can and that's why I am voting blue.
