Breast Cancer Day 73 - Don't Let Worry Stop You
The hardest part about a diagnosis of cancer is the worry about future. When will it come back? Will it metastasize? Do I have a month? a year? five years? twenty? One of my clients shared the story that her aunt had the same diagnosis that I had, and had also had a double mastectomy. Forty years later, it came back in her chest wall and eventually killed her. Sigh. Why anyone would tell me that story is beyond me... but then I thought. Wait, if I have forty years, that's fine. I'll be 104 years old. It's welcome to come back then.
The biggest regret that many patients have shared is that they let worry dominate their lives. Their advice? To go out and enjoy your life. Do the things that give you joy. Make sweet memories. Don't let the evil spectre of cancer invade your soul.
