Celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival With Mooncakes and Family in Taiwan ǀ Taipei Tonight Show
Learn how to make mooncakes and all about Taiwan’s Mid-Autumn or Moon Festival traditions. Plus, get to know two famous sisters from Russia and celebrate family in this cozy episode of The Taipei Tonight Show!
It’s a family affair on the couch this week as Dennis chats with multi-hyphenate Russian-Taiwanese star Annie and her sister, YouTube star Lena. The pair talk about their lives in Taiwan, how they came to be here and why they never left. Annie shares how she first came to Taiwan, her experiences as a model, singer and TV star, as well as how she received her Taiwanese passport after 15 years. Lena also chats about her experiences studying and traveling in Taiwan alongside YouTube stardom.
The trio also learns to make mooncakes from a professional and gets hands-on baking their own! Annie and Lena also tackle a quick-fire quiz on mooncakes and the Mid-Autumn Festival. To round out the show, Annie performs her latest single live in the studio!
🥮 ᴍᴀᴋᴇ ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴏᴡɴ ᴍᴏᴏɴᴄᴀᴋᴇꜱ!
Ingredients (makes four cakes)
Simple syrup 60g
Peanut oil 19g
Bread flour 40g
Cake flour 40g
Baking soda 1g
Filling 140g
🥮 ꜱᴛᴇᴘꜱ:
Combine the simple syrup and peanut oil.
Sift the flour and baking soda together.
Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir until combined. Let the dough rest for one hour.
Divide your filling into 35g balls. Take 20g of pastry and roll it into a ball. Press into a circle using the heel of your hand.
Wrap your pastry around your filling.
Dust your ball with flour then press it into a mooncake shape with a mold. Lightly brush with egg wash.
Bake at 180°C (356°F) for 10-12 minutes or until golden.
