This Lunar New Year, James Bezan MP, Shadow Minister for National Defence of Canada and a Patron of Hong Kong Watch, says:
“Happy Lunar New Year!
This year, we are celebrating the Year of the Dragon which symbolises strength, power, confidence and charisma. These characteristics are clearly evident in the brave freedom fighters in Hong Kong today, and those who are standing against the intimidation by the Chinese Communist Party right here in Canada.
I’d like to thank everyone at Hong Kong Watch for the great work they do here in Canada and around the world, fighting for human rights and civil liberties. They are an institution that is constantly standing up against the oppressive Communist regime in Beijing.
We all know that Beijing wishes to export their tyrannical aspirations as they’ve done in Hong Kong, Tibet and Xinjiang and are threatened to do so with their neighbouring nations like Taiwan and the Philippines. Though we are separated by the Pacific, here in Canada, we stand with our allies and are committed to preserving democracy and freedom in the Indo-Pacific region and around the world.
I’m proud to be a Patron of Hong Kong Watch, and my colleagues and I are committed to working with Hong Kong Watch on their mission to maintain peace and stability in the region by shining a light on the human rights violations being carried out by the regime in Beijing.
So in this Year of the Dragon, let’s remember we’re all dragons standing up against the aggressor and standing up for freedom, liberty, justice, democracy and human rights. All the best to everyone in 2024 and I hope you have a blessed Lunar New Year.”

「農曆新年快樂！
今年我們慶祝龍年，龍象徵實力、力量、信心、魅力。這些特質清楚展現在今日香港勇敢的自由鬥士，以及在加拿大對抗中國共產黨恐嚇的人身上。
我謹感謝香港監察全體成員在加拿大以至全球為爭取人權和公民自由所做的重大工作。他們是不懈對抗中共暴虐政權的組織。
眾所周知，北京想對外輸出暴政，就如他們在香港、西藏和新疆所做般，並威脅要對台灣和菲律賓等鄰國做同樣的事。雖然我們相隔太平洋，但加拿大會與盟友站在同一陣線，致力維護印太地區以至全球的民主與自由。
我很自豪能擔任香港監察贊助人。我和同僚致力與香港監察合作，揭露北京政權侵犯人權行為，履行維持香港和平與穩定的使命。
踏入龍年，我們要記住：我們都是龍，奮起對抗侵略者，捍衛自由、自主、公義、民主、人權。祝大家2024年事事順利，五福臨門迎新春。」
