This Lunar New Year, Benedict Rogers, co-founder and Chief Executive of Hong Kong Watch, says:
“Kung Hei Fat Choy! On behalf of all of us in Hong Kong Watch, I want to wish Hong Kongers everywhere, in Hong Kong and around the world, a happy Lunar New Year. I hope that the Year of the Dragon will bring better times ahead for everyone.
At this festive season, as we celebrate the Lunar New Year, families will be gathering both in Hong Kong and around the world among the Hong Kong diaspora. I hope that you will all find the joy and love and peace of being with your loved ones and your friends, enjoying the culture, the food, of this traditional season.
I hope that for the Hong Kong diaspora around the world, in the United Kingdom, in Canada, in the United States, Australia and elsewhere, that you will be able to connect not only with your fellow Hong Kongers, but also with your new neighbours and introduce them to the Lunar New Year customs and traditions and find a way of sharing Hong Kong culture with them.
For Hong Kongers in Hong Kong itself, I hope despite all the challenges that you have been through in the last few years, you too will find joy and hope of this season, that you will be able to gather safely and peacefully with loved ones.
For those who are the families of political prisoners, and for the political prisoners themselves, at this particular season we especially think of you – those who cannot be with loved ones and cannot enjoy the festivities in the normal way. I hope that the Year of the Dragon will bring unexpected positive change for Hong Kong and that the time will come when you can once again be with your loved ones.
