San Marino, A Landlocked Country, Situated In The South-central Europe. Covering Approximately 61 Square Kilometres In Total Surface Area, San Marino Is The Fifth Smallest Country In The World, And The Third Smallest In Europe After Vatican City And Monaco.

Situated In The Northeastern Part Of The Italian Peninsula. San Marino Is Surrounded On All Sides By Italy And Has Borders With No Other Country. It Is One Of Only Three Countries In The World To Be Completely Enclosed By Another Country (The Others Being Vatican City, Also Enclosed By Italy, And Lesotho, Enclosed By South Africa). The Apennine Mountain Range Run Through San Marino Giving The Country A Mountainous Landscape, With Mount Titano Being The Highest Peak At 739 Meters Above Sea Level. The Whole Country Of San Marino Is Centered Around Mount Titano. Mount Titano Is Also The Location Of Three Medieval Fortresses Or Towers Known As Guaita, Cesta, And Montale. This Three Towers Are Important Cultural Symbols In San Marino Are Depicted On Both The National Flag And Coat Of Arms Of The Country .

San Marino, Claims To Be One Of The World's Oldest Republics, As Per Sayings, The Country Was Founded By Saint Marinus, A Christian Stonemason, Who Established A Small Community On The Top Of Mount Titano In 301 Ad, Seeking Refuge From Religious Persecution From The Roman Empire. This Community Eventually Grew Into The Present-day Republic Of San Marino. Throughout History, San Marino Maintained Its Autonomy And Independence By Forming Alliances, Agreements, And Treaties With Neighboring Powers, Such As The Papal States And Various Italian Kingdoms. It Did Not Engage In Conquests Or Seek To Enlarge Its Territory Through Military Means. Therefore, In Terms Of Territorial Expansion, San Marino's Land Area Has Remained Relatively Stable And Confined To Its Original Small Size Around Mount Titano. The Constitution Of San Marino, Initially Established In 1600, Is One Of The Oldest Constitutions Still In Effect.

The Country Has A Total Population Of Roughly 34,000 Inhabitants And Is Divided Into 9 Municipalities. The Capital City, Also Named San Marino, Is Located On The Western Slopes Of Mont Titano. Other Towns And Villages Within San Marino Include Serravalle, Borgo Maggiore, And Domagnano. San Marino Maintains Open Borders With Italy And The Country Is Situated Roughly 10 Km Away From The Adriatic Sea Coast.

San Marino Is Not A Member Of The European Union, But Uses The Euro As Its Official Currency.
