Why take tram No. 36 to Strelna? Unusual tram routes of St. Petersburg
Strangely enough, there is only one tram running in St. Petersburg today, the route of which stretches to the suburbs — we are talking about tram route No. 36.
The tram (and I would like to write "railway") line to Strelna is part of the short—lived Oranela in its entirety, that is, the Oranienbuam electric line, which was almost the first prototype of suburban trains. In 1906, a project was approved for the construction of a tram line from St. Petersburg to Oranienbaum, but passenger traffic on it opened only during the First World War. And a few years later, after the revolution, the line was partially dismantled, and during the Great Patriotic War, when Strelna was under German occupation, Oranela was almost completely destroyed. In the post—war years, the line was restored, but only partially - to Strelna. And then the tram route number 36 was launched along it. The tram under this number was carried by more than one generation of Leningraders and Petersburgers. Now I decided to drive it too.
