This is an unofficial fan-made sequel to The Guardian Legend for the NES. I believe it was made in Adobe Flash. I heard about this a while back and being a big fan of The Guardian Legend since I was a child, it made sense to give it a try. With all new (or at least "borrowed" from other games) enemies, bosses, music, and even weapons, this one just had to be played!
The game only supports keyboard controls but with a program like JoyToKey you can easily map the keys to a controller of your choice, which is what I did.
There were a few instances where the software I was recording my gameplay with (OBS Studio) crashed so I had to shut down the game and restart from my last save point. Not really sure why that happened but in all instances the game continued to run just fine so it shouldn't be a problem to anyone who is just playing the game.
Final thoughts:
Turns out the game is excellent and truly does feel like an actual sequel to the original. It was a lot of fun solving the new puzzles to open each corridor, and was exciting to see what was ahead and to hear so many great familiar tunes from other games. There is also an "Arcade Mode" which I believe is similar to the "TGL Mode" in the original game. I haven't tried that one yet though. Excellent job BMP Corp! If there ever is a sequel, I would love to play it!
