We Brought The Arcade Home With These 3 Early Ports!
Back in the day, we couldn't just go to our TV and play video games, oh no. We had to go to arcades, bowling alleys, and roller skating rinks if we wanted to play video games, and at 25¢ a life, if you sucked it got expensive. Thankfully, with the Advent of home video game systems, we could bring the arcade experience home. While some games didn't port particularly well, I'm looking at you Pac-Man on the Atari 2600, many games has great ports. Let's take a look at three great games that let us bring the arcade experience home that I truly love.
Zaxxon
I think my love for this game has more to do with the arcade experience, but man I Loved Zaxxon as a kid. I first played it in a home system on our Atari 2600, but I also eventually bought it for the Sega Master System. It made me feel like I was playing Tron I think, and while it's not aged well it's still fun to play today
Mike Tyson's Punch Out
If you ever saw the original Punch Out arcade cabinet you'd understand how cool this thing was. 2 monitors top and bottom, bigger than life enemies, just so much fun. The home port did reduce the size of little Mac but it added in Mike Tyson. I've never beaten this game, but I still love playing it today
Final Flight
I loved Double Dragon, and Final Fight took everything great about Double Dragon and just turned up the volume. You had 3 different characters to choose from, the graphics were vastly superior, the boys figure were epic, it was just so good. When we got the Super Nintendo port they had to remove a character and it was only 1 player, but I didn't care. I thought Dubai Fight was epic and I loved it. Years later my wife would bring things full circle by getting me an Arcade 1UP Final Fight Cabinet.
