This is how I ended a multiplayer 8v8 match, by the 10 minute mark on the popular map called All That Glitters in Beyond all Reason using everything I have learned so far as an air player. This is NOT a tutorial or a guide, as I am not skilled enough to make one yet, but it is an opportunity for you to learn from other players' mistakes.

Since the Cortex faction is the default choice for an air player, because of the superior bombers and Shuriken which are the T1 Paralyzer Drones, the very first thing I do is to find an armada team mate from whom I want to buy a T1 construction bot and notify them of this fact.
I want that con bot because of three reasons. First, because it allows me to build cheaper wind turbines of the armada faction for energy generation, second, because I can cherry pick which buildings and units to get from both factions and third to construct additional metal extractors without worrying about my constructor getting shot out of the sky if I used only an air T1 constructor.
And while constructing metal extractors and energy production, I keep a constant eye on the wind speed indicator at the top of the UI so I can pick the most optimal building. If wind looks like it's low, below 5 or 6 I go straight into a solar, if the wind picks up, I switch to constructing wind turbines. What I try to make sure to do when building wind turbines is to add at least a single space in between them, so that their potential destruction doesn’t create an explosive chain reaction. This uses up more space, but prevents all my wind turbines exploding like dominos the moment two get blown up near each other.
This balancing act of energy production is tedious but very important to maximize the use of precious few starting resources. If wind turbines are most of my energy production, I prefer to be overproducing it a bit in case the wind speed drops as I am constructing the air lab.
And if we take a peek at the viewpoint of the opposing air player we can see he is doing almost exactly the same thing just without that starting solar.
On my end, I chose to start with a fighter, air constructor and then a scout, disable retreat option for air units being produced in this lab as they won’t live long enough to retreat from any battle anyway, and use the move then patrol command to set a constant flight plan from the lab to the future air wall in the sky above my allies.
The fighter is first as I want to try and take down the enemy air scout or send it to try and take out the enemy air constructor. You can share your own build orders in the comments below and we can discuss them.
What I prefer to do now is to use up my extra energy to speed up the production of that first fighter, and as it turns out this is exactly what my opponent does too. It might be better to go for an energy storage building? I am not sure. But it is what he does next, and if your eco is depending on wind turbines this is probably a good idea.
But on my end, I go for more wind turbines first, half a dozen in fact, only after which I add an energy storage building. This is where I get a warning about the enemy fighter flying over my allies units at the front and I immediately engage using the fight command with my own fighter. The attack from the flank allows my fighter to fire first, and the engagement is won. Had I built an air constructor first, I would have just lost it and all the resources sunk into it.
As you can see my opponent has a similar plan, but he completed his energy storage first, before adding more wind turbines to the build quite, but then paused it, to construct an anti air turret as he lost that first air engagement. A sensible precaution in my book.
A bit later he gets a visit from a tick from one of my team members, which manages to blow up one of his metal extractors. He does have a lot of energy saved up and can easily rebuild it, but it messes up his build order.
The very first thing he uses his air constructor for is to build a construction turret to help with the build power bottleneck. Again, he has the resources for it, and additionally lets his commander finish it while sending his air constructor to build the three remaining metal extractors.
