The Hunchback of Notre Dame (91 min)

Synopsis: Quasimodo longs to spend just one day out there with the people of Paris, but due to his misshapen appearance, he is hidden away in the bell tower of Notre Dame cathedral by his guardian, Frollo, the city’s zealous Minister of Justice. Encouraged by his only friends, stone gargoyles Victor, Hugo, and Laverne, Quasimodo sneaks into the annual Festival of Fools and is crowned King of Fools. When the crowd turns cruel, the beautiful gypsy Esmeralda comes to his aid, and Quasimodo is immediately smitten, as is Frollo’s Captain of the Guard, Phoebus. Bent on eliminating all gypsies from the city, Frollo is obsessed with capturing Esmeralda. Phoebus refuses to assist him and is condemned to die. Now Quasimodo must draw on all his courage to save everyone from Frollo and his misguided mission.

• To capture the city of Paris, animators spent a great deal of time there and at the Disney Paris offices. A paper puzzle of the Notre Dame cathedral was built by the production team as a reference.
• The film had a premiere on June 19 at the Superdome in New Orleans, utilizing six enormous screens, and preceded by a parade through the French Quarter.
• The song “Someday” was sung over the credits by the group All-4-One, but the European version replaced them with the British band Eternal.
