'The Botany of Leonardo' at Santa Maria Novella Museum
Known for his interdisciplinarity, Leonardo da Vinci was a mastermind of science, art and technology. This exhibition, part of the 2019 celebrations of 500 years from his death, explores da Vinci's studies of all of these fields using multimedia installations and examples of various codexes.
The exhibition also includes geometric structures positioned in the garden of the cloister of the Santa Maria Novella museum as well as dotted in locations around the city. See if you can find them!
Botany is the main theme and we see how he laid down many of the founding principles in the study of flora, fauna and the natural world. The geometrical structures, called polyhedras, in particular help us to understand the contemporary elemental connection to the study of geometry and mathematics.
