Turkey did not enter World War II, which had a devastating impact on the history of almost every country in Europe. Having lived through the war on almost every border, Turkey's escape from its devastation is still seen today as an important diplomatic achievement.
But the war also changed Turkey's future forever. It was the consequences of this war that brought Turkey militarily into the Western camp.
