Meet the researchers shaping the world
Meet the researchers based in the UK and USA who are collaborating with ethnic minority youth to explore their attitudes towards COVID-19 and vaccine engagement.
When it comes to understanding low youth vaccine uptake, there is an argument for moving away from the narrative that young people engage in “risk-taking” behaviour and display “apathy” towards the effects of the pandemic. Researchers from the UK and US asked a number of questions about the range of effects on the lives of young people whose formative years coincided with the pandemic. How were the lives of ethnic minority youth affected? How were they affected by school closures? Did they feel isolated from their peers?
The researchers were informed by youth-centred and youth-engaged research as they collaborated with both youth workers and young people to explore the various social, political and economic aspects at play. The findings from the project will be shared with practitioners and policymakers to help shape the continuing response to the pandemic.
