India and South Africa may be considered the favourites topping Group 2 considering their consistent strength, but Pakistan’s amazing performance last night literally became the icing on my cake! 🇵🇰🎉🙌🏻 Is there a miracle loading for Sunday?
When Pakistan got onto the field, it was with hope. We won the toss and chose to bat first, as the record books of the historic Sydney Cricket Ground prove that it’s a field where batting first is an advantage.
Babar and Rizwan, unfortunately, couldn’t get going, and the same was the case with Shan Masood. Mohammad Haris however, played an excellent cameo inning scoring 28 of 11. Iftikar Ahmed with his brilliant half-century took Pakistan from a difficult to a comfortable situation, just like he did in the game against India.
But then came a star all-rounder who made Pakistan’s total skyrocket, Shadab Khan 🚀 He completely justified his promotion by scoring the second fastest T20i 50 by a Pakistani batsman.
Pakistan set a competitive total of 185. When our team were 4 wickets down in the first 7 overs, a score even close to 180 looked improbable. But a wonderful knock from Iftikhar, whose 51 off 35 balls was the anchor of the innings for the second half of the 20 overs. Shadab's 52 off 22 was the other big contributing factor.
Pakistan was most comfortable in the second innings, despite the rain reducing the overs, which went in our favour. Shaheen bowled really well, taking an early wicket and a total of 3 wickets during his entire spell!
Haris was smashed all across the ground during Temba Bavuma and Aiden Markram's partnership until that was broken by Shadab Khan who took 2 wickets of 3 deliveries. Much to our delight, Pakistan won by a huge margin of 33 runs and kept hopes alive, but just alive.
Although very difficult, we’re all praying for a miracle on Sunday! If that doesn’t happen, I want our boys in Green to win their match with Bangladesh, and confidently exit in style, like real Champions!! 🏆
