MAJOR Youtube Kids Changes! $170 Million FINE! The End Of Kids Channels?
It started with YouTube disabling comments on select channels and turning off comments on select videos, but now YouTube has reported that they're removing comments completely on videos targeted towards kids, essentially banning comments entirely on content aimed at minors.
On top of this they're removing notifications from kids focused channels.
It also sounds as though there may be removal of monetization from kids focused channels.
Finally, anyone who views kids content will be treated as a kid in terms of their data, which will no longer be tracked.
This is all the results of a $170 MILLION fine the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) dropped on YouTube, along with concerns from the New York Attorney General.
These major changes will take place in about 4 months, and will affect channels that emphasize "kids characters, themes, toy, or games."
They did announce they'll invest $100 million in YouTube kids creators as well as invest in promoting the YouTube kids app more, and are bringing YouTube kids to the desktop.
YouTube is also raising the requirements for what it takes to be a part of YouTube Kids.
With all these changes, there will be a major impact on thousands, if not million of YouTube creators.
