A growing pile of trash and liter at Beaumont home leads to discovery of squatters
BEAUMONT — Coming home to find someone else living there is the reality for one Beaumont homeowner, whose home in the north end has been taken over by one or more squatters.
Neighbors of the home at 5270 Landry Lane originally contacted KFDM about trash littering the entire yard of the property. Reverend J.D. Roberts says he and other neighbors noticed the trash three weeks ago and the piles are steady growing.
"I thought it was somebody that had got evicted and they was putting all this stuff out," said Roberts. "Usually that's what they do on evictions, but the strange thing about it, it wasn't on the curb. It's in the yard."
Roberts says his neighbors approached him saying a woman they believe to be homeless is living in the house, transporting trash to the yard in shopping carts.
"It is a nuisance in more ways than one, but at the same time, I would not pass judgment to what it is and how it's going on," said Roberts. "All I know is that we need to have something, you know, done about it."
