Uttarakhand, One Of The 28 States Of India, Situated In The Northeastern Part Of The Country.
Covering Roughly 53,483 Square Kilometres In Total Surface Area, It Ranks As The 18th Largest State In India By Area.
The Region Today Known As Uttarakhand Was Earlier Known As Uttaranchal And Was A Part Of The State Of Uttar Pradesh, Before It Was Carved Out Of Uttar Pradesh On 09 November 2000. The State Name Was Changed In 2007 And Was Renamed Uttarakhand.
One Of The 20 Landlocked States In India, The State Borders The Tibet Autonomous Region Of China To The North And Nepal To The East; It Also Shares Its Borders With 2 Other Indian States, Which Are Uttar Pradesh And Himachal Pradesh.
Uttarakhand Is Divided Into Two Divisions,known As Kumaon And Garhwal For Administrative Purposes . These Divisions Are Further Subdivided Into 13 Districts. The State Has Two Capital Cities, Dehradun Is Its Winter Capital, While Bhararisain Is The Summer Capital. The State Has A Total Estimated Population Of Roughly 11.7 Million Inhabitants, The Most Populous City Is Dehradun With A Population Of Roughly A Million Inhabitants, Other Major Cities Include,haridwar, Rishikesh, Roorkee Nainital, Mussoorie, Almora, Haldwani, And Rudrapur.

Uttarakhand Geography Is Characterized By The Himalayas Mountain Range And The Plains In The Southern Part. Roughly 86% Of Uttarakhand's Terrain Is Mountainous And 65% Is Covered By Forest. Physiographically, The State Can Be Divided Into Four Areas Namely, The Area Within The Greater Himalayas Range, The Lesser Himalayas, The Shiwalik Range And The Tarai-babar Region. Most Of The Northern Part Of The State Is Part Of The Greater Himalaya Range, Also Known As Kamoun Himalayas, The Entire Area Is Covered By High Mountain Peaks And Glaciers, With Elevations Ranging Roughly From 10,000 To 25,000 Feet (3,000 To 7,600 Metres). Some Of The Highest Mountains In The World By Elevation Are Situated These Region . Most Notably, These Include Nanda Devi (25,646 Feet [7,817 Metres, Which Is The Third Highest Peak In India, Kamet (25,446 Feet [7,756 Metres]), And Badrinath (23,420 Feet [7,138 Metres. The Holiest River In India, The Ganges And Its Tributaries Like Yamuna, Bhagirathi, And Alaknanda, Originate In The Uttarakhand Himalayas. To The South Of Greater Himalayas, Lies The Lesser Himalayan Region, With Elevations Ranging From 3,700 To 4,500 Meters, Its Just A Part Of Himalayas With Lower Elevation. Adjacent To The Lesser Himalayas, Lies The Shivalik Range. The Shivalik Range In Uttarakhand Is The Southernmost Mountain Range Of The Himalayas And Is Also Known As Outer Himalayas . This Range Consists Of Low Hills And Foothills And Serves As A Natural Boundary Between The Himalayas And The Indo-gangetic Plains. The Elevation Of The Shivalik Range Generally Ranges From Around 1,000 To 3,000 Meters (3,300 To 9,800 Feet) Above Sea Level. The Next Region Of Uutarkhand Is The Tarai Bhabar Region, A Fertile Agricultural Plain. This Covers Region A Small Portion Of Area Of The State.
The Bhabar Area Is Rocky Area Characterized By Porous Soil Making It Less Fertile Soil, While The Tarai Is The Low-lying Area With Fertile Plains,
