How did the Czechs treat the dead Soviet soldiers?
Even in May 1945, the Germans were still resisting stubbornly. They made desperate attempts to break through to our allies. In the battles for Prague in the period from the sixth to the eleventh of May 1945, more than 11 thousand Soviet soldiers and officers died. Since the attack on the capital of Czechoslovakia was going at a great speed, the Red Army soldiers simply did not have time to bury their dead comrades. Therefore, they had to turn to the Czechs for help. Here is what the scout Ivan Melnikov recalls about it. “We did not have time to bury the guys. I took the documents and awards of the dead. - I asked one of the Czechs with a red armband on his arm and a star on his cap to bury the guys nearby on the square. He nodded his head in agreement and asked me to write their names and dates of birth. I quickly scribbled a short text that read: “Here Soviet soldiers died heroically in the battle for the liberation of Czechoslovakia” and listed the names.
