Welcome to Freiberg, Germany! Founded in 1186, this town in the German state of Saxony is known for its mining history. The Freiberg Mining Academy, established in 1765, is among the oldest mining schools globally. The town's medieval silver mines once made it one of the wealthiest towns in Saxony. Today, the town's population is around 41.000.
We start at the central market square at the heart of the town. The Town Hall, built in the late Gothic style, dates back to 1410 and features a unique astronomical clock. On this walk around the Freiberg city center we also pass some sights like the Freiberg Cathedral. The cathedral is home to the famous Silbermann organs, one of which was played by Johann Sebastian Bach. We see several streets of the town before returning to the market square and a quick walk out of the center towards the bus station.
Enjoy exploring Freiberg!
