Now if you want to activate disappearing message for all the contact in WhatsApp then what you do is tap on this more option here. Go to "settings". Go to "Privacy" and here there is an option "Disappearing messages". Tap on this option "Default Message Timer". If you want you can let the message remain for 24 hours, 7 days or 90 days. Let me select 24 hours. So once you do it what happens is for all the contact present in the WhatsApp application the message will last only for 24 hours. If you want to turn off you can tap on more option here. settings. Privacy. Go to "Default Message Timer" and then turn it off. Now let me mention here once you activate disappearing message if you have already message with the contact then those previous message will remain in the WhatsApp application For example whatever message are present inside here it will remain. Now this disappearing message will start only from the time when you set the duration. All the previous message will remain in the WhatsApp app. Now if you want to turn on this disappearing message only for an individual contact then then you have to select the contact. Tap on the name at the top here. Go to this option "Disappearing Messages" and then set the duration like 24 hours, 7 Days Etc and if you want to turn it off select Turn off. So this is how you will set disappearing message on either for all the contact in WhatsApp application or only for a particular contact.
