You don’t need LeetCode
I mean seriously. LeetCode is an AWESOME tool at the right time in the right place.
Many companies, especially FAANG and those in North America, demand top-notch knowledge of Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA). If this applies to you, don’t hesitate—gain this skill.
But what if you’re an aspiring developer looking for your first job somewhere else?
I’ve passed tons of technical interviews in Europe. My friend recently landed a six-figure job at a top European company. Guess how many algorithm interviews we had?
Zero!
So, what questions do such companies ask during technical interviews?
They focus on practical knowledge related to your work: how a feature works, what happens inside, how protocols work, how your favorite framework is implemented, and multithreading. There could also be coding tasks related to language-specific features, not algorithms.
My point is, if you KNOW you need DSA—go to LeetCode. But if you just saw a content creator on Instagram talking about red-black trees and Google interviews, it might not be the case for you RIGHT NOW. Maybe it’s better to focus on studying the language and its ecosystem.
If you’re unsure, do some research. Find 20-30 people in your field on LinkedIn and ask them what they needed to know to pass a technical interview.
